Fantastic produce that doesn’t cost the earth.
Having spent the past decade growing and delivering our organic
veg boxes to you. We are well placed offering, an expanded range
and delivery service to offer you a more complete groceries solution.
The highest quality groceries, direct from the producers
to your door.
Over the years we have met and worked with some very
knowledgeable people in the food sector and it is only natural
that we should want to work closely with them to develop both our
and their businesses together. Our policy still remains the same;
we source the majority of our premium products from local, sustainable
organic producers to bring you the best in tasty ethically produced
food and household items. Everything we offer we try ourselves
first to make absolutely sure we are happy to put our name to it,
during that process we have found some non-organic products we
feel are worthy of inclusion.
Of course we still offer our ever popular vegetable boxes but
now offer much more of what we think you would like to see. To
visit the shop for a browse or to start shopping please click here
Our product range is continually being updated, if you feel something
is missing, let us know and we will try to stock it.
As well as the growing we do out in our fields
we are starting to grow a sense of community around activities here
at the farm. With the help of the ubiquitous facebook and twitter
we can now communicate with you directly, keep you informed about
what's happening here and more importantly hear what you have to
say so we can continue to grow with your needs. |

The Bronze turkey is a traditional breed
renowned for its excellent flavour and texture. Our turkeys have
been reared Free Range from one day old at Bickham Farm, ranging
in the field during the day and housed in a spacious barn on a
deep bed of straw at night. Rearing turkeys on a free range system
allows them to mature slowly with the freedom to roam and eat a
more varied diet.
This years turkeys are £5.00/lb.
Your bird is oven ready (in other words there is no wastage) and
comes with giblets. We require a 2.5lb weight margin, turkeys do
not grow to exact sizes. We will endeavour to get as close to your
desired weight as possible.
Please note that all turkeys are
to be picked up from Bickham Farm, with the exception of mail order. |

Dexter cattle originated in the south west
of Ireland, descended from the predominately black cattle of the
Atlantic seaboard, as is the Kerry breed. Dexter cattle were first
introduced into England in 1882.
The breed is the smallest British Breed. It
is dual purpose, with the average weight of a cow being some 300-350
kgs and standing 96 and 111 cms at the rump. There are two types,
short legged and non short legged, both of which have equal merit.
I have a mixture of both. The breed comes in three colours. Black
predominates but red and dun are not rare.
Dexter cattle are extremely maternal, giving
good milk quality and calving problems are rare, newly born calves
are quick to rise.
The carcass is early maturing, the beef is of
excellent quality and flavour with good marbling. Dexters finish
on grass and this is most important. My cattle do not eat any supplements,
the meat is very popular with you the consumer because of its outstanding
flavour, small joints and minimal waste. The animals are slaughtered
locally and the carcass is hung for a full three weeks, to maximise
the flavour and tenderise the meat further. To try some go the
shop. It may not always be available but you will join a list and
be told when you can expect your fantastic box of mixed cuts of
beef.

Two long-established native breeds of South-West
England, the South Devon and Devon Longwool, were amalgamated in
1977 to form the Devon and Cornwall Longwool. The breed is dual-purpose,
producing a good carcass lamb and heavy fleece of wool. It is particularly
suitable for the production of heavy lambs finished on fodder crops
for the winter marker, while the hard-wearing quality of the wool
renders it valuable for carpet manufacture.
It is a large animal with rams weighing well
over 100 kg. Both sexes are polled. The head and body are well
covered in long curly, white wool. The average fleece weight for
a ewe is 7 kilos and rams around 12 kilos but some fleeces have
been known to weigh almost 20 kilos. Unusually for a British sheep
breed Devon and Cornwall Longwools are shorn as lambs, producing
a particularly warm, resilient and valuable fleece.
I have a small flock, the ewes are sold for
breeding and the Rams are sold for meat and will appear from time
to time on the website, go to the shop to see if there is any available. |
